Council noise recording equipment

Noise Pollution United Kingdom

Some councils can install monitoring equipment in your home. There is often a waiting list.

UK councils can supply noise recording equipment, usually a sound level meter that also captures audio samples. It is normally installed in a habitable room such as a bedroom or living room, and left in place for one to two weeks.

How it usually works

  • You report the noise first, and typically complete a diary sheet.
  • If the diary supports your report, officers may install equipment.
  • You activate the recording when the noise happens.
  • The council analyses the results and decides whether it amounts to a statutory nuisance.

Availability varies and priority tends to go to reports with existing evidence, which is another reason to keep your own log. You do not need to buy professional equipment yourself.

You report this yourself. Evidentor helps you gather and organise evidence. It does not send reports to the police, councils, platforms, schools or employers on your behalf.
